Highlights:
What exactly is a Nurtured By Nature Mentoring Session?
Imagine that coaching and forest therapy had a baby: meet Nurtured By Nature (NBN) mentoring session! This delightful hybrid brings the nervous system calming of a forest therapy walk to the process of setting and working toward goals. The best of both practices, brought together to support you.
Who are these mentoring sessions for?
Sensitive, creative, idealistic people who might be finding it hard to make progress toward their goals—or even believe that their personal goals are all that important—at a time when the world feels too ugly, complex, and harsh. If you feel like you can’t settle down to actually do the things you care about, or if you don’t want to go it alone, these sessions are for you.
Bonus: you mentor, Lori Cangilla, fits this description, too, so you’ll have a guide with you who knows the territory!
What does an NBN mentoring session look like?
We’ll identify a priority, value, or project that matters to you now. Think of it as the destination for your hike.
I’ll lead you through nature-based mindfulness practices to help you feel calm, focused, and supported. You’ll learn how to make the journey more pleasant once we’re done.
And we’ll clarify your next small, manageable steps in support of your path. We won’t reach your destination in a single session, but you’ll know you’re on the path that’s meant for you.

This is a hard time for people who feel and think deeply.
Whether you have a big heart for people or the environment, are a creator of art and beauty, or you’re trying to make a change for the future, you’re probably asking yourself:
How am I supposed to do anything when the world is crashing down around us?
The discouragement, outrage, and despair we’re feeling now are intense—and they’re not going away. Maybe there’s a part of you that would like to escape to a hermitage in the woods. Or you’d like to hide on a deserted beach, alone, undisturbed, and sheltered from reality.
But you know that’s not really an option when there are people who count on you, bills to pay. Besides, you’re not ready to give up on what matters to you. You have goals and dreams, even if they’re murky.

The world is waiting for you to do your thing—especially now.
Yes, You!
Maybe you’re a writer, visual artist, or other creator, and you’re stuck, blocked, unable to bring your vision to the world.
Perhaps you’re a therapist, service provider, or entrepreneur who wants to make an impact through sharing your expertise—but you don’t want to recreate all the systemic woes of capitalism in the process, for yourself or your clients.
Or maybe you’re looking to change the world a little closer to home, by building family and personal relationships—or an entire community network—that reflects your values and leaves a legacy for the future.
You know you have a vision - you just need some help getting further down the path to making it a reality.
Nurtured by Nature Mentoring Sessions can help you figure out how to get the benefits of escaping into nature, without running away from your life.
Here’s how these virtual mentoring sessions work:
You book an appointment for us to meet over Zoom. I’ll send you some helpful information about how to get the most of our session and how we’ll bring nature into the process (hint: we’ll use whatever nature you encounter in your daily life, whether indoors or outdoors).
At your chosen time, we’ll begin our session with a grounding visualization and meditation using the natural elements around you. You’ll tell me about your vision—the ultimate destination you want to reach—and what obstacles you’ve been facing recently on your journey.
I’ll lead you through a nature-based mindfulness practice that will help you identify the next right-for-you-right-now steps on your path.
We’ll explore how to apply this mindfulness practice to help you continue on your path, even if you encounter obstacles or feel like you’re losing your way.
You’ll leave with a clear awareness of how to travel this stage of your path and use nature-based mindfulness practices to figure out practical, strategic approaches to staying on the road to your dream destination, without burning out in the process.
With Nurtured By Nature Mentoring, you won’t just escape from reality for a few minutes—you’ll learn how to help yourself feel calmer, focused, and able to set goals and follow through on them.
If you’re ready to learn how to use the resources of nature to bring yourself into closer alignment with your values and your dreams, let’s get started!
Who is Your Mentor?
Hi, I’m Lori Cangilla, a nature nerd, bleeding heart, photographer of trees, and writer of journals and poetry. I’m a mentor for people like me: sensitive, creative, idealistic souls who are trying to figure out how live in a world that feels like it’s not designed for us. And who’d like to connect with the rest of nature as part of the process.
I’m the author of a guided journal, Wander and Delve, and host my Singularly Sensitive community on Substack.
Over the years, I’ve seen that writing isn’t enough for many of us to settle ourselves and focus on what we want to do. Nature was the missing element for me.
I became a certified forest therapy guide because I love helping other people figure out how to connect with the power of nature—even if they don’t consider themselves outdoorsy or they live in urban and suburban areas.
As someone with an invisible illness that includes dynamic mobility challenges, I’m keenly aware that many outdoor spaces and groups are not welcoming or accessible to everyone. However, I believe that everyone deserves to connect to the rest of the natural world, indoors or outdoors, in whatever way is suits their needs and preferences. Please contact me (lori@singulalrysensitive.com) so that we can co-create a process that works for you.
I bring my life experience as a psychologist to my work as a mentor, but please keep in mind that mentoring isn’t therapy, and I won’t be acting as your psychologist in this context.

Nature-Based Mindfulness Can Make All the Difference in Times Like These for People Who Want to Make a Difference
We’ve Grown Disconnected from the Natural World
We’ve been conditioned to believe that nature is something “out there”—a place where we go for a hike or a trip.
Some of us have never learned how to intentionally use nature-based practices to soothe our emotions, rein in our overactive brains, and focus on what’s important in our lives.
Or we’ve decided we’re too busy, it’s too hard when we live in urban or suburban areas, or it feels too indulgent to spend time with the rest of nature.
We escape to the woods, instead of having an ongoing, reciprocal relationship with nature as part of our everyday lives.
But wouldn’t it be nice to bring the vacation vibe into the daily grind? Maybe even feel calm enough to get something done and not feel miserable in the process?
You can learn to cultivate this kind of nurturing relationship with nature, even if you don’t think of yourself as outdoorsy.
You can improve your mood, your lifestyle, and your ability to reach your goals, even if your access to nature is typically limited to your houseplants, your yard, or a city park down the road.
I can guide you into a more mindful relationship with nature that gives you the benefits of an outdoor escape, without leaving home.
FAQs
-
We’ll meet over Zoom, and you’ll connect to nature near you. That could mean houseplants on your desk, the view from your balcony or porch, or a bench in a local park. It’s more important that you have a strong internet connection than you go to a bucolic setting for our session.
-
We’ll meet for 60 minutes on Zoom. We’ll begin with a brief nature-based mindfulness exercise to settle into the process. Then we’ll identify where you are in the process of setting and reaching goals, where you’re stuck, and how to might want to go forward. I’ll lead you through another nature-based mindfulness exercise to help you find your next right-for-you-right-now step. Finally, we’ll discuss how to apply this process in your everyday life going forward. You’ll receive a follow-up email from me with feedback and resources to help you apply what we’ve covered and stay connected.

Forest therapy is based in the reality that nature is all around us and we are part of nature. Therefore, we have many options for creating nature-based mindfulness practices from indoors or outdoors. As someone who lives with an invisible illness that comes with dynamic mobility issues, I’m committed to making the mentoring process accessible to as many people as possible. Please contact me by email (lori@singularlysensitive.com) so that we can discuss what your needs are and how we can adapt the process for you.

Not at all. Psychotherapy (therapy, counseling, or whatever name it goes by) is based on an ongoing relationship with a helping professional trained to address your mental health needs. This is a single mentoring session where I support and collaborate with you as a guide, based on my experience. If you’re currently in therapy, please speak with your therapist about whether they believe this kind of mentoring would be an appropriate supplement/adjunct to your therapy services.
